ITION DESCRIPTION
The Camp Cleaner plays an important role in ensuring the Youth & Family Wellness Camp remains clean, safe, welcoming, and ready for year-round programming, events, overnight stays, and community use. As a member of the maintenance team, the Camp Cleaner is responsible for the regular cleaning, sanitizing, and deep cleaning of camp buildings, offices, cabins, washrooms, program spaces, and gathering areas. The position also supports event setup and takedown, waste management, supply inventory, laundry, bed preparation, and general property maintenance.
Reporting to the Camp Property Manager, the Camp Cleaner works with all departments to ensure camp spaces are clean, welcoming, and ready for use. This position is well suited to a dependable, organized, and hardworking individual who takes pride in maintaining clean and welcoming spaces and is comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Reports to: Camp Property Manager
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Clean and sanitize all camp buildings, offices, meeting spaces, program areas, cabins, washrooms, common areas, and staff spaces.
- Complete daily, weekly, seasonal, and deep-cleaning tasks according to cleaning schedules.
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, including door handles, railings, tables, chairs, counters, light switches, and shared equipment.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, wash, and maintain floors, walls, windows, furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces.
- Clean, sanitize, and deep clean washrooms, showers, change rooms, sinks, toilets, mirrors, floors, and related facilities.
- Restock washrooms and common areas with toilet paper, paper towels, soap, hand sanitizer, garbage bags, and other required supplies.
- Complete seasonal deep cleaning of buildings and spaces, including before and after summer camp, overnight programs, retreats, rentals, and major events.
- Identify and report damage, maintenance concerns, safety hazards, pest concerns, leaks, or sanitation issues to the Camp Property Manager.
Cabin & Overnight Accommodation Preparation
- Clean and prepare cabins and overnight spaces before and after each booking or program.
- Make beds and prepare sleeping areas with clean linens, blankets, pillows, and other required items.
- Strip beds and collect used bedding, towels, and linens following overnight stays.
- Complete laundry duties, including washing, drying, folding, organizing, and storing linens, towels, bedding, and cleaning materials.
- Check cabins for damage, missing items, maintenance needs, and belongings left behind.
- Ensure cabins are clean, stocked, organized, and ready for incoming campers, families, employees, or guests.
Event & Program Support
- Assist with the setup and takedown of meetings, programs, ceremonies, celebrations, community events, retreats, and facility rentals.
- Set up and move tables, chairs, tents, signage, garbage and recycling stations, decorations, equipment, and other event materials.
- Clean and prepare event spaces before use and complete cleaning and reset following events.
- Monitor washrooms, garbage stations, common areas, and gathering spaces during larger events and restock or clean as required.
- Work collaboratively with maintenance, events, kitchen, program, and administrative teams to ensure spaces are ready, and respond to changing cleaning needs during programs and events.
Waste & Supply Management
- Empty and clean garbage, recycling, and compost bins throughout the camp.
- Transport waste and recycling to designated collection areas.
- Restock supply rooms, cleaning carts, washrooms, cabins, and common areas.
- Notify the Camp Property Manager when supplies need to be ordered.
- Safely organize, label, store, and use cleaning products according to WHMIS requirements.
General Maintenance Support
- Complete basic maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, replacing batteries, tightening fixtures, and moving furniture.
- Assist with seasonal cleanup, snow clearing, leaf removal, sweeping entrances, and keeping walkways clear.
- Help organize and store furniture, equipment, supplies, and program materials.
- Support the maintenance team with property preparation and other operational duties as required.
Health & Safety
- Follow all camp policies, cleaning procedures, and safe work practices.
- Wear required personal protective equipment and safely handle cleaning chemicals, waste, spills, and sharp objects.
- Use appropriate signage when floors are wet or areas are temporarily closed.
- Report hazards, incidents, damaged equipment, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Participate in required workplace training, safety meetings, and emergency drills.
- Maintain privacy, accessibility, cultural safety, and respect while working in occupied or culturally significant spaces.
Other Duties as required, including:
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or extended hours for events and seasonal demands.
- Work respectfully around children, youth, families, Elders, guests, and cultural activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Camp Property Manager or camp leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in cleaning, housekeeping, custodial work, hospitality, or facility maintenance is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of cleaning, sanitizing, laundry, waste management, and safe chemical handling.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow schedules, checklists, and instructions.
- Dependable, organized, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift equipment, work outdoors in all weather conditions, & perform physical tasks.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold the safety and privacy of participants, staff, and community members.
- Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, land-based practices, and community values (asset).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Equivalent combination of training and hands-on experience will be considered.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Valid First Aid/CPR or willingness to obtain.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check.
